Why I Waited 18 Months To Buy A Rocking Chair

Hi Everyone,

I've been meaning to write this post for a couple of weeks now. It's something I really wanted to share with you all. I know that a lot of my readers are either pregnant or parents of infants or young children. When I find a new hack or something that makes life easier I want to scream it from the rooftops.

I've said this before but I always felt as if I missed the boat on the whole rocking chair situation. It's not something I ever considered when I was pregnant. It seemed like a luxury as opposed to a "must have".

I started to realize pretty quickly that it was something that we would have benefited greatly from. I've come to realize that it is a product that I would recommend that all expectant parents pick up. Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding a rocking chair will aid your comfort. In my opinion it is a comfortable place to snuggle up during those night-feedings and all subsequent night-wakings. I've made no secret of the fact that our little man is not a sleeper.

Billy has always been a baby who was settled with motion. A lot of babies are. He liked to be rocked, bounced and generally swayed in order to go back to sleep. There are books that will tell you not to introduce these "sleep aids" but I have always done what felt natural when it came to looking after my baby.

As the little man got older he got heavier. This meant that rocking him back to sleep was that little bit more strenuous. I found myself thinking again about how a rocking chair would make life easier.

And so we bought one. When my son turned 18 months I bit the bullet and just bought one. It seemed a bit bizarre at the time but better late than never right?

We purchased this one from Smyths and it was the best decision ever. It has made life much easier and it's something we will have forever.

Are you pregnant? I highly HIGHLY recommend picking up something like this. Plonk it in the living room to facilitate those long evenings of cluster feeding. Put it in the nursery or in your own bedroom. It is unbelievably comfortable, has a recline feature and a handy rocking footrest to make it even more comfortable.

There are so many products on the market that clever marketing will tell you that you do need. A lot of them will gather dust in your house. This is definitely not one of those items. A friend of mine uses her rocking chair every single day as part of her daughters bed time routine. Her daughter is almost four years old and enjoys having stories read there before bed. She also regularly has to kick her husband out of the chair when she wants to feed the baby. That says it all really doesn't it?
